Asivikelane Project
Asivikelane is a national campaign that gives informal residents the opportunity to report on basic services in their informal settlements. Using a simple system residents provide feedback in exchange for data. This information is fed into a national database and a monthly report produced showing a scorecard for each municipality and highlighting certain successes or shortcomings (https://asivikelane.org/). PEP was invited to be part of the Western Cape campaign in 2020 and participated for 6 months. During this time 6 community facilitators were trained to oversee the campaign in Bitou and CAM and over 100 community members reported on services in their settlements. Unfortunately, at the end of 2020 funding for the campaign in the Western Cape was cut and PEP could not continue. We hope that in the future we may be able to join the campaign again.
